BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The heavyย rainfall is causing more than just people in the lowcountry to make preps for the stormy weather–so are animals.
Firefighters with Santee Circle Rural Volunteer Fire Department know this first hand.
Early Saturday morning, firefighters were dispatched on Canady Branch Roadย for a report of a tree on the roadway.
Once on scene, they admit that they were a bit perplexed by what caused the tree to fall in the first place.
“The cause of the tree in the roadway was rather a brain scratcher,” one of the firefighters joked.
After further investigation, they realizedย a beaver was the mastermind behind the downed tree.
“A beaver cut down the tree to try and protect his home,” he said.

Beaversย are the largest living rodents in North America. Theyย cut down trees, shrubs, and other available vegetationย toย build a den or lodge for shelter and reproduction.
