MONCKS CORNER, S.C.—A Moncks Corner man faced a judge in bond court Monday morning. Kirkland Schultt, 37, of Mountain Pine Road has been charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent.

Summerville Police say on November 16th he pretended to be a bail bondsman and conned a 78-year-old woman from Summerville out of $500.

Officers say the victim initially contacted Kirkland after “a friend of a friend” referred her to him. The money she gave Kirkland was to be used to bond out her son who’s currently behind bars at the Dorchester County Detention Center.

The victim told police that after giving Kirkland the money, he gave multiple excuses as to why he was unable to bond out her son. That’s when she decided to file a police report.

Through further investigation, police learned that Kirkland did not have license to be a bail bondsman after all.

Kirkland was eventually taken into custody and booked into the Berkeley County Detention Center.

On Monday, a judge set Kirkland’s bond at $5,000.
