BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–You don’t usually see multiple fire trucks randomly roll up to a house unless there’s a fire or other emergency.
However, Wednesday night, several local firefighters were on a mission of a different kind–to bring holiday cheer to a brother in blue and his family.
On November 3rd, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputy Cameron Babsonย was injured when heย was struck by a car on the driverโs side of his patrol car. He sufferedย multiple fractures to his pelvis and still continues to recover from his injuries.
Meanwhile, hisย wife suffers from her own health issues which makeย her unable to work. As a result, his family relies solely on his income.The two also have a young son.
As you might imagine, his mounting medical bills have put enormous stress on the Babson family during the holiday season.
Thatโs why the Coastal Carolina Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society (F.O.O.L.S.) along with help from the Lowcountry Jeep Club and the Lowcountry Firefighter Support Team stepped up with a very important mission: making sure that this familyโs Christmas wasย one they’ll remember for years to come.
On Wednesday night,ย Hanahan Fire Department Engine 3 and the Lowcountry Firefighter Support Teamโs Engine 8 did exactly that by playing “Santa Claus.”
With fire trucks in tow, they surprised the Babson family at their homeย with gifts in hand.ย Babsonโs son, Joshua,
was bombarded with wrapped presents faster than he could open them. He also got his very own firefighter hat and given a tour of the engines.
The sneaky surprise, of course, wouldn’t have been made possible without the help of Babson’s sister-in-law.
Babson hopes to return back to work at the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office sometime in the New Year.
