MONCKS CORNER, S.C.—More than 58,000 Americans lost their lives while serving in the military during the Vietnam War.

The United States involvement in the war began after WWII, however, escalated to full commitment from 1959-1975.

To remember the many vets who served in the war, General Marion’s Brigade Chapter of the DAR, the U.S. Department of Defense and the Town of Moncks Corner are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War on May 6th with a special event titled “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans.”

According to organizers, the upcoming event is designed to express thanks to the many Vietnam veterans and Vietnam era vets and to celebrate their service to our country.

The first Friday in May happens to be South Carolina Vietnam War Veterans Survivors and Remembrance Day.

The event will take place at 12 p.m. at the new Moncks Corner Recreation Complex at 418 East Main Street.
