56-Year-Old Man Rescued By Good Samaritans After Falling Into Tailrace Canal

Friends stated that the man was hot and wanted to go cool off.

MONCKS CORNER, S.C.–According to Berkeley County first responders, a 56-year-old man was rescued from the water on Thursday after falling from the Dennis Boat Landing across from Gilligan’s restaurant.

Friends stated that the man was hot and simply wanted to go cool off. They say around 4 p.m. he somehow fell face first into the water and never resurfaced.

As soon as his friends noticed him, they rushed over and pulled him from the water.

First responders say Morgan Megnardie immediately attempted CPR. An unidentified man also assisted her.

A boat also pulled up to the landing with two nurses in it, Carol Dehay and Deborah Tatum.

They immediately assisted and began CPR.

The victim was in critical condition when transported to Trident Hospital in North Charleston.

Paramedics from Berkeley County EMS arrived and immediately placed the man in the ambulance and began advanced life support care and regained a pulse.

He was quickly transported to Trident Moncks Corner where he was further stabilized and eventually transported to Trident Main in critical condition.

Units responded from Berkeley County EMS and Santee Circle Fire Department.
