MONCKS CORNER, SC โ Berkeley County Council voted unanimously last night to approve the first two phases of a master reconstruction plan of Cypress Gardens, closed since last Octoberโs historic flood.
Phases 1 and 2 of the Cypress Gardens Rehabilitation and Improvement Plan includes work on the pedestrian trails, boat landing, butterfly house, visitorโs center, cottage, restrooms and other action items necessary to reopen the park at the earliest opportunity possible.

โWhile it has been a long process to assess the full scope of damage and devise a master reconstruction plan, our resolve to rebuild Cypress Gardens into an even greater destination than it was before has only intensified,โ said Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler.
County officials believe these first two phases will be complete by the Spring of 2018.
โBased on engineering reports and associated scopes of work, we believe there is at least a year in delay of re-opening,โ said Deputy Supervisor Tim Callanan. โOur plan calls for residents and tourists to enjoy the nature areas of the park on or before April 2018.

Councilโs vote last night also included the funding of $1 million to complete these first two phases.
