According to the Charleston Police Department, a former Berkeley County school bus driver is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old studentย who recently gave birth to his child.
Kevin Michael Wesley, Jr., 30, is charged with second and third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. A judge recently set bond atย $400,000.
Berkeley County School District officials haveย confirmed that Wesley is no longerย employed by BCSD and that they are fully cooperating with law enforcement.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred while Wesley was employed with the Charleston County School District.
Police say the student used to rideย Wesley’s bus route for only about four months in 2015. However, he stillย maintained contact with her even after she left his route. Over time, police say he persuaded her to sneak out of her home to secretly meet him. Authorities say eventually he also convinced the teen toย begin a sexual relationship with him.
Theย teen eventually told her mother about the improper relationship, according to an incident report. Investigators say the victim gave birth to Wesley’s child on September 17th.
In court, Wesley told the judge he is currently unemployed.ย Until his recent arrest, he wasย also a member of the Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad. However, squad officials confirm heย has since been suspended from the organization.
As of September 30th, Wesley remains behind bars inside the Charleston County Detention Center.
