MONCKS CORNER, S.C.—A man is behind bars after robbing a Moncks Corner business, according to Captain Mark Fields with the Moncks Corner Police Department.

On October 5th, police say a man with a gun walked into the Advance America Savings and Loan Office on North Highway 52 and robbed employees of several hundred dollars in cash.

Police say the suspect, who was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, then fled the business on foot.

The Moncks Corner Police Department quickly responded and detectives began following several leads, Fields stated.

In the following days, detectives say they were able to eventually identify the suspect and secure a warrant for 31-year-old Martel Smalls whose last known address was in Goose Creek.

With the assistance of the United States Marshal Service and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Smalls was arrested about a month after the initial crime on November 8th.

Police say Smalls eventually confessed to the robbery, and he is currently being investigated for other Lowcountry robberies.
