HANAHAN, S.C. – The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified the child who was recently found unresponsive by her caretaker.
According to Berkeley County Coroner George Oliver, the deceased child is 2-year-old Alex Young of Ladson.
Young was pronounced dead at MUSC on May 25.
The cause and manner of death are still pending.
According to a report by Live 5 News, the child’s babysitter, Stefanie Johnson, has been charged with unlawful conduct towards a child.
Johnson discovered the 2-year-old boy face down in a backyard swimming pool in Hanahan, an arrest report stated. First responders say they saw bruises on the child’s forehead and lips and the child was breathing shallow. He died two days later.
The Hanahan Police Department, SLED and the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office are investigating.
