BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Firefighters battled a fast-moving woods fire that scorched acres of wooded land near North Creek Drive on Monday, bringing it under control after more than four hours, according to Pine Ridge Fire Rescue.
Crews were dispatched around 11:30 a.m. and arrived to find the fire rapidly spreading through five acres of wooded area. Incident command was established on scene, and additional assistance was requested from Central Berkeley Fire & EMS, Moncks Corner Rural Fire Department, Berkeley County EMS, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, and the South Carolina Forestry Commission.
Approximately 25 fire personnel responded, supported by two foresters, four plows, and two air tankers provided by forestry officials.
According to the South Carolina Foresty Commission, the fire grew to 36 acres. The fire was contained, however, within 4.5 hours.
Officials are urging residents to use caution in the area, as smoke conditions may persist for the next 24 to 48 hours. Fire crews and law enforcement will continue monitoring the site to ensure the blaze remains within containment lines.
Authorities also thanked EMS crews for their standby support and the sheriff’s office for managing traffic control and establishing the incident command post.
