BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit has wrapped up a week-long traffic enforcement effort aimed at improving safety in local neighborhoods. From May 6 through May 9, deputies patrolled residential areas throughout the county, issuing more than 130 citations and addressing a variety of traffic violations.
The initiative targeted several communities, including Spring Grove, Fairlawn, Cypress Gardens, Pimlico, Bushy Park, Pinopolis, Thornley Forest, Moss Grove, Sedgefield, Boulder Bluff, and Bonneau Beach.
“Our operations are a direct response to concerns that have been received from our community,” said Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis. “We will continue to coordinate random enforcement and hold aggressive drivers accountable. I encourage our citizens to report concerns to dispatch or by submitting a tip online.”

During the operation, deputies issued 132 citations for violations such as:
- Speeding
- Driving without a license
- Failing to signal
- Running stop signs
- Driving under suspension
- Texting while driving
- Seatbelt violations
- Expired tags
- Uninsured or unregistered vehicles
- Violating the Move Over Law
In addition, 113 warnings were given for various other infractions.
Deputies also handled eight criminal cases, which included charges for:
- Driving under the influence
- Alcohol-related offenses
- Disorderly conduct
- Habitual traffic violations
- Multiple driving under suspension offenses
Six vehicles were towed during the enforcement period.
The Sheriff’s Office says it will continue conducting similar operations in response to community concerns. Residents are encouraged to report traffic issues by calling dispatch or submitting tips online.
