BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Justin Grant, a senior at Stratford High School and a standout member of the Berkeley County Project SEARCH program, has been named the 2024–25 Student of the Year by the Summerville Mayor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities.

The honor was awarded during the committee’s 35th Annual Awards Luncheon, held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the Summerville Country Club. In addition to the title, Justin also received a scholarship prize in recognition of his achievements.

Justin has made a name for himself both inside and outside the classroom. A member of Renaissance, he has earned multiple accolades from Berkeley County School District, including the Turnaround Award and the Difference Maker Award, the latter now renamed the Justin Grant Award for Leadership. He volunteers as an Assistant Soccer Coach at Stratford, helps with the Athletic Booster Club, and is active in both the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Unified Knights.

Justin’s nomination stood out for his “positive attitude and relentless drive to make a difference,” according to his application. “He proves that a person’s value is not defined by their limitations but by their actions and their impact on others.”

Berkeley County’s Project SEARCH program, which launched in 2017, equips young adults with significant disabilities with training and job-readiness skills. Participants gain hands-on experience by working in departments across Berkeley County Government, with support from the Berkeley County School District and S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation.

“This program is near and dear to our hearts at Berkeley County. Each year, these students showcase their hard work alongside our County departments and set the bar high when it comes to dedication and drive to their duties. Students learn valuable job and life skills, and in return, they bless our staff immensely. Each one shines and we are grateful to have them,” said Berkeley County Supervisor Johnny Cribb.
