BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Overton Beach Park will officially reopen for the summer season on Saturday, May 24, with some key updates—and a new price tag.

The popular Santee Cooper-managed recreation area, located along Lake Moultrie, has announced its first fee increase in more than two decades. Admission is now $5 per person, up from the long-standing $2 rate. Children under 5 are still admitted free.

A family season pass, which covers admission for up to four people per vehicle, is now $100—a $60 increase from previous years. Picnic shelters, which once started at $25, will now cost beachgoers at least $75 more than before. Annual passes to Old Santee Canal Park are not valid at Overton.

Santee Cooper officials addressed the new price hike following online criticism from beachgoers.

“We understand the sticker shock,” the park posted on social media, “but please keep in mind that the prices have never been raised in the 20+ years since the park opened. We must do so to keep up with the exponential increase in costs and visitors.”

To help improve convenience, Overton Beach Park will now accept credit card payments—a new option for visitors who previously had to bring cash.

Overton Beach is a family-friendly spot known for its sandy shoreline, picnic tables, and access to Lake Moultrie. It’s one of several parks and trails maintained by Santee Cooper that promote outdoor recreation across the region.

The park, which is located at 204 Short Stay Rd. in Moncks Corner, is open in the summer seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Memorial Day Weekend. For more information on Overton Beach Park and other nearby outdoor spaces, visit Santee Cooper Parks & Trails.
