SUMMERVILLE, S.C. – In a few days, the Summerville Police Department will be out in full force with extra patrols and checkpoints to ensure that reckless and intoxicated drivers are not on the road.
The department announced Tuesday that police will conduct DUI checkpoints and enhanced patrols on Friday, May 23, beginning at 6 p.m., as part of a Memorial Day weekend enforcement initiative.
According to a statement from the department, checkpoints and saturation patrols will be set up at West Carolina Avenue, South Main Street, and Brighton Park Drive.

“Our goal is to ensure everyone gets home safely to their families this Memorial Day 2025,” SPD officials said in a news release. “There are many alternatives to drinking and driving. Call a friend or family member, take a taxi, or use your smartphone to order a rideshare service. Please, don’t endanger yourself or others. It’s a matter of life or death.”
The Summerville Police Department’s Memorial Day operation is part of its broader public safety mission and coincides with national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaigns.
