BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Berkeley County officials are alerting the public to a new phone scam thatโ€™s making the roundsโ€”and itโ€™s convincing enough to fool even the most cautious residents. The scam involves callers pretending to be deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriffโ€™s Office, falsely claiming that the person on the line missed jury duty and must now face legal consequences.

The calls appear to come from 843-965-2102 and even go as far as to mention Berkeley County Clerk of Court Leah Dupree to sound more legitimate. But make no mistakeโ€”this is a scam.
