BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Berkeley County officials are alerting the public to a new phone scam that’s making the rounds—and it’s convincing enough to fool even the most cautious residents. The scam involves callers pretending to be deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, falsely claiming that the person on the line missed jury duty and must now face legal consequences.

The calls appear to come from 843-965-2102 and even go as far as to mention Berkeley County Clerk of Court Leah Dupree to sound more legitimate. But make no mistake—this is a scam.
