BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Big Lots is making a comeback in Berkeley County after initially shutting down operations several months ago. The discount retailer will reopen its Moncks Corner and Goose Creek locations on Thursday, June 5, as part of a nationwide relaunch under new ownership.
The Moncks Corner store, located at 1013 Old Highway 52, and the Goose Creek store at 431 St. James Avenue, Unit B, are among 70 Big Lots locations reopening across the country that day, according to USA Today. This marks the fourth wave of store reopenings since the company filed for bankruptcy in September 2024 and closed many of its stores.

The relaunch is being led by Variety Wholesalers, a North Carolina-based discount retailer known for its “treasure hunt” shopping experience. The company acquired 219 Big Lots stores out of bankruptcy and has been reopening them in phases since April.
“We’re thrilled to bring the Big Lots! brand back to life by offering more deals than ever, lots of famous brands and a new apparel department for the entire family,” Lisa Seigies, president and CEO of Variety Wholesalers, said in a news release. “We’re opening stores quickly so we can serve the community. We know the stores won’t be perfect to start, but each week we’ll add more new products as we build towards the grand opening celebration in the fall.”

The reopened stores will feature remodeled layouts, expanded merchandise including apparel and electronics, and closeout deals. Customers can expect to find great deals and unique finds at their local Big Lots store.
