Bonneau Man ID’d in Bushy Park Boat Landing Drowning

BERKELEY COUNTY S.C. – The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the victim whose body was recovered Wednesday afternoon from the Bushy Park Boat Landing in Goose Creek.

According to Coroner Darnell Hartwell, 61-year-old Dean Elsey Sr. was recovered from the water by divers with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office around 12:45 p.m.

Officials say Elsey slipped, suffered a head injury, and drowned. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the official cause and manner of death.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident.

Authorities briefly closed the boat landing during the recovery operation to allow emergency responders to work safely and efficiently.
