BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – When disaster strikes, having trained volunteers ready to respond can make all the difference. That’s why Berkeley County Emergency Management and the American Red Cross of South Carolina are inviting residents to participate in their Shelter Responder Boot Camp and Hands-Only CPR Training on Saturday, July 19.
The event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Berkeley County Administration Building, is designed to equip volunteers with the skills needed to support emergency shelters during major disasters. Participants will learn to assist with reception, registration, feeding, dormitory management, and other critical shelter operations.

The Red Cross relies on Shelter Service Associate volunteers to provide comfort and care to displaced residents when hurricanes, floods, and other emergencies force families from their homes. Organizers hope the upcoming training will prepare more volunteers to step in when the community needs them most.

In addition to shelter operations, attendees will also receive Hands-Only CPR training, an essential life-saving skill.
