SUMMERVILLE, S.C. – In response to Wednesday’s assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the Berkeley County Republican Party and the Dorchester County Republican Party will host a community vigil on Sunday, September 14 at 6:30 PM at Hutchinson Square in downtown Summerville. The event aims to bring together residents to remember Kirk, reflect on the values he promoted, and pray for national healing.
Kirk, 31, was fatally shot during an event at Utah Valley University this week. The news has prompted widespread reactions across South Carolina, including in Berkeley County, where political leaders and community figures joined calls for unity, respect for life, and rejection of political violence.

“Charlie Kirk’s life and work inspired countless Americans to live boldly in defense of their values. Together, we will honor his memory, lift up our nation in prayer, and recommit ourselves to the enduring principles of faith, family, and country.” — Joint statement from the Chairmen of the Berkeley and Dorchester County Republican Parties.

This vigil in Summerville joins other memorials and statements across the U.S. paying tribute to Kirk and confronting the broader issue of violence in a highly polarized political climate.
