MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — A Moncks Corner woman was arrested after Berkeley County deputies uncovered a stash of narcotics, a handgun, and drug paraphernalia during a late-night bust at a local boat landing.
Crystal Lynn Montgomery, 33, of Charles Fort Way, was charged with trafficking fentanyl and multiple drug and weapons offenses after deputies responded to a tip about a suspicious vehicle lingering at the Cypress Gardens boat ramp, according to Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis.

Deputies on extra patrol made contact with Montgomery and a male passenger inside the vehicle on September 13. The smell of marijuana reportedly led to a probable cause search — and what they found was anything but recreational.

- 16.70 grams of fentanyl in pressed pill form
- 2.82 grams of cocaine
- 144.38 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, including chocolate-infused products
- Marijuana
- A loaded 9mm Ruger handgun
- Digital scales, packaging materials, and other drug-related gear

“This is another example of how proactive patrol and community involvement play a vital role in keeping dangerous drugs off the streets of Berkeley County,” Lewis said in a statement. “We always appreciate community tips. This one led to a significant narcotic seizure.”
Montgomery now faces charges including trafficking fentanyl, manufacturing a scheduled substance, possession of cocaine, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The male passenger was not named in the release. No injuries were reported.
Sheriff Lewis emphasized the importance of citizen vigilance: “Keeping Berkeley County safe is a joint effort,” he said.
