“This is another example of how proactive patrol and community involvement play a vital role in keeping dangerous drugs off the streets of Berkeley County,” Lewis said in a statement. “We always appreciate community tips. This one led to a significant narcotic seizure.”

Montgomery now faces charges including trafficking fentanyl, manufacturing a scheduled substance, possession of cocaine, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The male passenger was not named in the release. No injuries were reported.

Sheriff Lewis emphasized the importance of citizen vigilance: “Keeping Berkeley County safe is a joint effort,” he said.
