BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The body of a diver reported missing near Bushy Park Boat Landing in Goose Creek was recovered Monday, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office. Multiple agencies responded to the scene and assisted in search operations before locating the victim.
Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell identified the diver as Mark Beckler, 55, of Arlington, Virginia.
Beckler and three other divers from several states came to South Carolina to dive in the Cooper River, Hartwell said.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call around noon Saturday about a diver in distress near the boat landing, prompting a multi-agency search of the Cooper River that continued through the weekend.
What led to the diver’s death is still not clear. Chief Deputy Jeremy Baker said the U.S. Coast Guard is the investigating agency.
