Victim ID’d in Cordesville House Collapse: Coroner

CORDESVILLE, S.C. — A 65-year-old woman has died following a house collapse in Cordesville that left two people trapped, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.

Officials said county emergency crews were dispatched at 7:42 a.m. Thursday to Rufus Lane after reports that a home had collapsed with occupants inside. Both victims were extricated from the structure.

The coroner’s office was notified at 9:18 p.m. that one of the victims had died at the MUSC burn unit. She was identified as Sandra Tillman, 65, of New York. Coroner Darnell Hartwell said Tillman died from injuries and complications stemming from the collapse.

Authorities did not release additional details about the second person involved.

Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the South Carolina Fire Marshal, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, North Fire & Rescue, Moncks Corner Fire & Rescue, Berkeley County Communications, Berkeley County Roads & Bridges, Goose Creek Heavy Rescue and Summerville Special Operations, the coroner said.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, SLED and the South Carolina Fire Marshal are continuing to investigate the cause of the collapse.
