The merger brings together decades of service and tradition. Goose Creek Rural Fire Department was founded in 1959 to serve unincorporated areas of Goose Creek, while Pine Ridge Fire Department began in 1968 to serve the Summerville portion of Berkeley County. The new district will continue to serve those areas, along with the previously merged communities of Lebanon, Longridge, and Sandridge.

Officials emphasized that the merger is designed to strengthen emergency services without compromising the high standards and community dedication both departments are known for.

A new Facebook page for the South Berkeley Fire District is expected to launch soon. In the meantime, residents can continue to contact either department through their existing channels. Updates to contact information will be released as they become available.
