BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Berkeley County officials are hosting two additional town hall meetings this month to gather public input on the county’s updated Hazard Mitigation Plan, a key document that guides how the community prepares for natural disasters and other emergencies.

Berkeley County Emergency Management announced that the meetings will take place on December 15 and December 18, giving residents and business owners another opportunity to review the county’s 2025 All-Hazard Mitigation Plan and share feedback.

The public forums are scheduled as follows:

  • Monday, December 15, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Goose Creek Library, 325 Old Moncks Corner Road, Goose Creek
  • Thursday, December 18, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Daniel Island Library, 2301 Daniel Island Drive, Daniel Island

The plan identifies potential threats such as flooding, hurricanes and other natural disasters, evaluates vulnerabilities throughout the county and outlines strategies designed to reduce risk and improve resilience.

The town halls build on an earlier meeting that was held in September. Residents who are unable to attend in person can watch a recording of that session on the Berkeley County Government YouTube page.

Officials say community input will play a critical role in helping the county secure future federal funding, including grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and in strengthening long-term disaster preparedness strategies.

The Hazard Mitigation Plan must be updated regularly to remain in compliance with FEMA requirements and to ensure the county remains eligible for mitigation funding.
