Summerville Man Charged in Child Exploitation Case

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — A Summerville man is facing multiple felony charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor following a multi-agency investigation that included key support from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of 23-year-old Terrell Lee Claggion on Dec. 9. Claggion is charged with three counts of criminal solicitation of a minor, two counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and one count of disseminating obscene material to a child under the age of twelve.

The investigation was led by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators with the Summerville Police Department. Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office investigators, also members of the state’s ICAC Task Force, played a supporting role in the case, alongside law enforcement agencies from Missouri and Pennsylvania.

According to investigators, Claggion allegedly solicited a minor for sex, encouraged the production of child sexual abuse material, and sent sexually explicit images to a minor.

Each charge carries significant penalties. Criminal solicitation of a minor is punishable by up to 10 years in prison per count. First-degree sexual exploitation of a minor carries a maximum sentence of 20 years per count, while dissemination of obscene material to a child under twelve is punishable by up to 15 years.

The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.

Attorney General Wilson emphasized that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
