Summerville Man Charged in Child Exploitation Case

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. โ€” A Summerville man is facing multiple felony charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor following a multi-agency investigation that included key support from the Berkeley County Sheriffโ€™s Office.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of 23-year-old Terrell Lee Claggion on Dec. 9. Claggion is charged with three counts of criminal solicitation of a minor, two counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and one count of disseminating obscene material to a child under the age of twelve.

The investigation was led by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators with the Summerville Police Department. Berkeley County Sheriffโ€™s Office investigators, also members of the stateโ€™s ICAC Task Force, played a supporting role in the case, alongside law enforcement agencies from Missouri and Pennsylvania.

According to investigators, Claggion allegedly solicited a minor for sex, encouraged the production of child sexual abuse material, and sent sexually explicit images to a minor.

Each charge carries significant penalties. Criminal solicitation of a minor is punishable by up to 10 years in prison per count. First-degree sexual exploitation of a minor carries a maximum sentence of 20 years per count, while dissemination of obscene material to a child under twelve is punishable by up to 15 years.

The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney Generalโ€™s Office.

Attorney General Wilson emphasized that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
