BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Authorities are investigating the death of a Huger man found inside a vehicle following a collision on Clements Ferry Road early Wednesday morning. Charleston Police now say the incident is being treated as a homicide.

Officers responded to the scene around 7:30 a.m. on January 14 after a vehicle struck a power pole near Cainhoy Road. Inside the vehicle, police discovered two individualsโ€”one of whom, identified as 39-year-old Arthur Broughton Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Berkeley County Coronerโ€™s Office, Broughton was found unresponsive when first responders arrived. An autopsy is underway to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Charleston Police say preliminary findings suggest Broughton was shot inside the vehicle prior to the crash. A passenger was also located at the scene and transported to a local hospital. Their condition has not been released.
