BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – With winter weather and dangerously cold temperatures expected this weekend, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office says it is working closely with county and state partners to protect public safety and urges residents to prepare in advance.

Sheriff Duane Lewis met with county officials ahead of the forecasted conditions to coordinate plans for Saturday and Sunday, emphasizing the importance of readiness as temperatures drop and road conditions potentially worsen.

Deputies will increase patrols across Berkeley County to monitor road conditions and respond to emergencies, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials are strongly advising residents to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary, warning that hazardous driving conditions pose serious risks not only to motorists, but also to first responders and other members of the public.

Residents are encouraged to use the county’s Citizen Call Line at 843-719-4800 for the most up-to-date information and for non-emergency issues such as power or water outages. The automated system operates 24 hours a day and provides important information related to utilities and other critical services. Officials stress that all emergencies should be reported by calling 911.

The sheriff’s office also directed residents to an online portal where current road closures and conditions will be updated throughout the weekend as weather impacts develop.

Authorities say they will continue to closely monitor the forecast and provide updates as conditions change. Residents are urged to remain weather-aware, limit travel and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families.
