BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — After a rare winter storm blanketed Berkeley County with snow over the weekend, school leaders are hitting pause on in-person learning as icy conditions linger across the area.
The Berkeley County School District announced that students will learn from home on Monday, Feb. 2, completing assignments through an eLearning Day. All schools and district offices will remain closed, while staff members work remotely.
The decision comes as much of the county continues to thaw from the weekend snowfall, which stretched from Hanahan to St. Stephen and left slick roads, icy patches, and freezing temperatures in its wake. While families spent the weekend enjoying snowmen, snowballs, and sledding, officials say safety remains the top concern as conditions improve slowly.

In addition to the closure of schools and offices, all before- and after-school programs are canceled, along with extracurricular activities, athletic practices and games, and special events scheduled for Monday.
District leadership says it plans to resume normal operations on Tuesday, Feb. 3, but notes that further adjustments could be made if weather conditions change or safety concerns persist.
