BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — What began as a routine patrol quickly escalated into a white-knuckle chase and major drug bust after deputies say a pickup truck took off and scattered deadly narcotics across Sangaree roadways.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrests of Shawn Paul Driggers, 46, of Summerville, and Shelby Anne Pyatt, 34, of Ladson after a Jan. 20 pursuit that ended atop an I-26 overpass on Nexton Parkway.
According to deputies, the drama started while an officer was patrolling North Main Street near Longstreet Road following reports of shots fired. That’s when a white pickup was spotted idling on Turtle Pond Road — brake lights glowing.

When the deputy rolled up, the truck bolted.
Blue lights came on. Sirens wailed. And the truck took off through multiple roadways as deputies watched items fly out of the windows during the chase, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
The pursuit finally screeched to a halt on the I-26 overpass, where deputies took Driggers and Pyatt into custody without further incident.
What they found afterward was the real shocker.
Deputies recovered multiple bags tossed along the route and inside the vehicle — including fentanyl in several forms. Investigators say the haul included brown rock-like chunks, pink-and-white powder, and small blue pills — all field-testing positive for fentanyl, with a combined weight of about 123 grams.
Also seized: roughly 3.2 grams of methamphetamine, 17 multicolored MDMA (ecstasy) units, $1,799 in cash, and a cellphone.
Both suspects were charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and possession of MDMA (15 dosage units or more). Driggers was hit with an additional charge for failing to stop for blue lights and sirens.
