MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — A popular public boat landing in Moncks Corner will soon close for more than a year as Santee Cooper begins a major expansion and modernization project aimed at improving access to the region’s waterways.
The William H. Dennis “Biggins” boat landing will temporarily shut down starting Feb. 15, with construction expected to continue until the site reopens in spring 2027. Officials say the overhaul will significantly expand boating capacity, improve traffic flow and increase safety as demand for outdoor recreation continues to grow in Berkeley County.

The landing, which provides access to the Tailrace Canal and nearby Santee Cooper lakes, will undergo a full-scale upgrade that includes reconstructing and enlarging the parking lot, adding more vehicle space and designated staging areas for launching and retrieving boats.
Plans also call for expanding the current two-lane ramp into a four-lane boat ramp, building more than 470 feet of new staging docks and constructing two new ADA-compliant fishing piers — one at each end of the parking area.

“This boat landing is a vital public access point to the Tailrace Canal and Santee Cooper lakes, and this project will ensure it continues to serve our growing community safely, efficiently and for many years to come,” said Dan Camp, senior director of real estate and Camp Hall for Santee Cooper. “We appreciate the public’s patience as we make these much-needed improvements.”
Santee Cooper officials said the entire site must remain closed for the duration of construction to allow heavy equipment, excavation and in-water work to be completed safely.
During the closure, boaters will be encouraged to use alternative public launch sites, including Cypress Gardens, Wadboo and Ralph Hamer Sr. boat landings. The utility said it will share updates and help residents identify nearby access points through its website and social media channels as the project progresses.
