BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The owners of The Rustic Muffin announced Monday that they are stepping away from their beloved coffee house after nearly eight years, marking the end of a chapter that they say was defined more by community than commerce.
In a heartfelt message shared with customers, the family said they have officially sold the business as they transition into a new season of life centered on retirement, health and time together.
“What was created here was never just a business — it became a second home and a community that shaped our family in ways we will forever be grateful for,” the owners wrote.

Over the years, they said many customers became friends, watching their son grow up in the bakery — doing homework at tables, helping behind the counter and learning responsibility in a place filled with conversation and support.
The decision to sell comes as Grant, one of the owners, retires after 28 years in law enforcement. The family also shared that he underwent cancer treatments last year, and they now hope to focus on recovery, rest and spending more time together.
The shop will continue operating under new ownership. The family said they are confident the shop is in good hands and encouraged the community to continue showing the same support they have offered for years.

While the main location in Summerville will remain open, the Moncks Corner location was not part of the sale and will stay closed, according to the announcement.
Even as they step away from the bakery, the owners said they are not leaving the area. They plan to begin a new venture, inviting customers to stay connected and visit them at their next chapter, called “The Days End.”
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for almost eight unforgettable years, for your loyalty, your friendship, and for allowing us to be part of your daily lives,” they wrote.
