SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — A new disc golf course is now open at Brown Family Park in the Nexton neighborhood, giving residents and those in the surrounding area another way to enjoy the outdoors and stay active.
Town leaders, county officials, and community members gathered Thursday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the new course, where the first discs were officially thrown following the dedication.

Located at Brown Family Park, 3000 Front Street in Nexton, the course offers families and friends a recreational option that blends outdoor activity with friendly competition.
Officials say the project was supported in part through a $10,000 Park and Recreation Development (PARD) grant through Berkeley County.
During Thursday’s ceremony, Berkeley County Supervisor Johnny Cribb and Berkeley County Councilwoman Amy Stern spoke about the importance of expanding recreational opportunities for residents.
Town of Summerville Administrator Scott Slatton also attended the ceremony, joining local officials in recognizing the value of outdoor spaces that encourage people to gather, exercise, and spend time together.
Summerville Parks and Recreation officials also highlighted the work of staff who helped bring the project to life.
Project Manager Shawn Medders, who helped oversee construction of the course alongside the parks team, had the honor of cutting the ribbon during the event.
Officials say the new course is designed to provide a fun and accessible activity for both beginners and experienced players.
