MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Leprechauns and locals alike came together for a block party in downtown Moncks Corner. Vendors, restaurants, and shops were decked out in green for an early Saint Patrick’s Day party. The town shut down part of Main Street around Unity Park to traffic and “Let The Shenanigans Begin.” This is the fourth year the town has hosted the block party.

“It brings people to our Main Street. We want to get people into their hometown to support our businesses, Collectors, Citi Trends, Ophelia‘s, Barons. It brings people to the heart of downtown when we have events throughout the year,” said Susan Gilmore, Moncks Corner Special Events Manager.

The street and park was lined with local food and business vendors, a petting zoo, and live music by Randall Fowler, a Goose Creek native now working in Nashville with record labels and fellow country singers.

“Randall has a big following. He’s well known in the Lowcountry and Nashville so people are welcome to bring their chairs out and sit in the park and enjoy music,” said Gilmore.

And as people enjoyed green drinks, food, and roaming the streets, some attendees were lucky enough to get gifts from one special leprechaun…

“This is one of my favorite things to do as mayor is see all the people who come to our events and see support by everyone,” said Mayor Tom Hamilton. “This is the Lowcountry’s hometown, so this just brings us all together to shut down the streets and have everyone, all the vendors, all the shops, the music, the food. This is just a wonderful experience and everyone’s laughing and enjoying their day.”

Local artists loved having their work on display for sale.

“I love coming to all the events. I did the farmers market last year. It’s what I do to stay sane with two toddlers. Bringing color into other peoples lives makes it worth it,” said Gina Lastuvka, owner of Hippie Dippie Artworks.

And local food vendors had people lined up to buy their treats.

“This is retirement for us. We’ve worked all our lives and now we’re doing something we wanna do for fun, said Two Sisters Crafting owner Sharon Bernard.

Local real estate agent Heather Wilkerson came out to the block party with her two boys and says Moncks Corner is a great place to work and live.

“Working with The Real Estate Firm, events like this gives us opportunities to be out and about and it’s important,” said Wilkerson.

“This is my hometown and I grew up in here I love seeing neighbors and new friend and I love share my hometown with other people, “ said Lynn Adcox.

“We’ve lived here the past 20 years, and we love our small town. This is where I’m raising my kids and I am so glad the town has stuff like this, we just love to come out and support,” said Krista Driggers.

The town expected about 1,000 people to attend the Saint Patty’s event.

On April 11, the town will host “Spring Pickin in the Corner” with antiques, vintage crafters and a bluegrass band. The town also invites everyone to join for Music Mondays for live music from 6-8 pm every Monday in April.
