CAINHOY, S.C. — Fire crews from multiple agencies worked Wednesday afternoon to contain a brush fire in the Cainhoy area, prompting a temporary evacuation recommendation for some nearby residents.
The Charleston Fire Department said in a social media post around 3:49 p.m. that firefighters, along with the South Carolina Forestry Commission, were actively working to control the fire as smoke conditions increased in the area.

Officials advised residents along Blind Flight Street to evacuate as a precaution due to the potential impact of smoke from the progressing brush fire. The department said it was coordinating with Berkeley County Emergency Management to notify those living in the affected area.

About an hour later, around 5:05 p.m., the Charleston Fire Department reported that crews had contained the fire, allowing officials to lift the evacuation recommendation.
Firefighters remained on scene Wednesday evening to address smoldering areas and hot spots, continuing to monitor the situation to prevent the fire from spreading.
Officials have not reported any injuries or structural damage related to the fire.
