Berkeley County Sheriff Awards 5-Year-Old With Civilian Service Award

W. โ€œButchโ€ Henerey announced that the Berkeley County Sheriffโ€™s Office has awarded five-year-old Garrett Patterson with the Civilian Service Award for โ€œservice in the performance of an outstanding act which substantially aided the Berkeley County Sheriffโ€™s Office in the performance of their duties.โ€

During the morning hours of May 18, 2015 โ€“ Berkeley County Sheriff Deputies and personnel from numerous local, state and federal law enforcement agencies were in the process of searching for a person of interest from the shooting of Lieutenant Will Rogers.

After hearing reports of the incident from local media outlets, Patterson took it upon himself to Garrett Patterson 3 prepare food and, with his mother, deliver it to the personnel involved in the search.

The award states that Pattersonโ€™s โ€œextraordinary effort lifted up the morale of all personnel involved in the search.

Because of Mr. Garrett Pattersonโ€™s efforts, the Sheriffโ€™s Office personnel, as well as all other personnel involved, were able to continue with their search knowing they had the support of the community.โ€

In addition to presenting Patterson with the award and a gift bag, Sheriff Henerey also named Patterson an honorary deputy.

โ€œWe are so proud to have Garrett Patterson as an honorary deputy,โ€ said Henerey. โ€œGarrett is a truly impressive young man with great thoughtfulness and maturity. His service to our department and the other agencies will never be forgotten.โ€

After accepting the award and his honorary deputy badge, Patterson spent time with Sheriff Henerey, Garrett Patterson 1Chief Deputy Rick Ollic and Major Anthony Phyall.

โ€œI appreciate them a lot,โ€ said Patterson. โ€œI wish I could have stayed with them all day.โ€

Patterson will also be recognized by Sheriff Henerey and County Supervisor Bill Peagler for his service to the Sheriffโ€™s Office at the June 22nd County Council meeting.
