BCSD Schools to Honor Bus Drivers During Bus Driver Appreciation Week

school busBERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County School District’s 223 full-time bus drivers and 63 assistants provide transportation for approximately 20,000 students. Schools throughout the district will acknowledge and honor those bus drivers and assistants during Bus Driver Appreciation Week, February 22 through February 26.

Berkeley County School District Superintendent, Brenda Blackburn said, “During School Bus Driver Appreciation Week we will celebrate all of our outstanding and caring bus drivers who greet students every morning and safely transport them to and from school.”

H.E. Bonner Elementary will host a breakfast for bus drivers on Monday, February 22 at 9 a.m. On Tuesday, February 23, at 1 p.m., Nexton Elementary will have a special assembly to recognize bus drivers. Students at Whitesville Elementary also will show their appreciation to their bus drivers with an assembly on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. Stratford High will host a special breakfast, prepared by culinary arts students, for bus drivers at 8 a.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2016.

Berkeley County School District Director of Transportation, Wes Fleming, said, “Each school day, families in Berkeley County count on school bus drivers to transport their children. These bus drivers – whether operating a bus on a route, taking a team to a game, or driving a school group to an activity – are a critical component of the education process.”
