JAMESTOWN, S.C.–Jamestown Mayor Roy Pipkin stated Thursday that he has no plans to fire the town’s long-time police chief over his recent remarks some critics have called inappropriate.
According to ABC News 4, members of the National Action Network met with Pipkin; however, the meeting turned sour after Pipkin stated that he had no plans to terminate High from his position over one incident.
“Now, if he does another event, he is gone,” warned Pipkin.
High came under fire by NAN and others in the community after a heated Facebook exchange with a young woman last week. Some have argued that his comments were racist.
“I read the Facebook page, all of it, it was terrible, the language used, people calling (each other) bad names and all this,” Pipkin said. “He should have never gotten on it, but he has learned his lesson.”
However, some people aren’t entirely convinced that he has. According to NAN members, they plan to ask SLED to investigate the Jamestown Police Department.
“I guarantee you, this isn’t the first time he’s made comments like this,” said Willie Felder, a NAN leader. “This is the first time he got caught, but this isn’t the first time he made a comment like that.”
