Moncks Corner Man Killed After Car Strikes Tree on I-526

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–A Berkeley County man has died following an accident on the interstate.

On Friday at 4:25 p.m. 53-year-old Ernest L. Whaley of Moncks Corner was traveling on I-526 when his sedan ran off the right-side of the roadway striking a tree.

The accident happened near the Daniel Island exit, and he was pronounced dead on the scene by Coroner Bill Salisbury.

The accident was investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the Charleston City Police Dept. He was wearing a seat belt.
