Dozens Cited in New Year’s Eve Traffic Crackdown in Moncks Corner

Joint enforcement effort in Moncks Corner leads to dozens of citations and two arrests as officers target speeding and safety violations.

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — Deputies with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with local and state law enforcement agencies on New Year’s Eve as part of a joint traffic enforcement operation aimed at improving roadway safety during the busy holiday.

The operation, conducted in Moncks Corner, brought together the sheriff’s office, the Moncks Corner Police Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Officers focused on identifying impaired and dangerous driving, as well as common traffic violations that can contribute to crashes.

According to the sheriff’s office, officers issued dozens of citations and warnings throughout the evening. Enforcement efforts targeted speeding, license and insurance violations, and other hazardous driving behaviors. Two wanted individuals were taken into custody during the operation, officials said.

In total, officers issued 68 citations and 58 warnings. Violations included 43 speeding tickets, four cases of driving under suspension, six drivers without a South Carolina license, eight expired tags, and multiple insurance-related violations. One reckless driving charge and one careless operation citation were also reported.

The sheriff’s office credited the multi-agency collaboration with helping keep roads safer during one of the year’s highest-traffic holidays.

Law enforcement officials are again reminding drivers to slow down, obey traffic laws, and never get behind the wheel while impaired, emphasizing that holiday enforcement efforts are designed to prevent serious injuries and save lives.
