MONCKS CORNER, S.C. โ The Pinopolis Lock, a key part of South Carolinaโs inland waterway system, will shut down for scheduled maintenance beginning Thursday, Jan. 8, and remain closed through Friday, Jan. 23, according to Santee Cooper.
Boaters seeking updates during the closure can call 843-899-LOCK (5625) for the latest information.
The lock, which has been in continuous service since 1942, is part of the Santee Cooper Hydroelectric and Navigation Project. The system was built as Santee Cooper began generating electricity and remains a vital link for boaters traveling between lakes Marion and Moultrie โ the stateโs largest freshwater resource.

Santee Cooper, which manages both lakes, said the temporary closure is necessary to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of the lock, one of the most historic pieces of navigation infrastructure in the region.
