According to North Charleston police, a 15-year-old was arrested shortly after 12 p.m. Thursday for the shooting death of Kadena Brown, a mother who was killed while in her own car.
The teen has been charged with murder, four counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said the teen is currently being housed with the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Brown happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time when she was stopped–her car reportedly mistakened for another vehicle that was the intended target.
Police say the young woman was driving her vehicle when the driver of another vehicle involved in a separate shooting incident fired four bullets into her vehicle, one of them striking her.
Authorities say prior to the fatal shooting, shortly before 2 a.m. officers responded to witness reports of two vehicles chasing and firing shots at one another around Lawrence Street and Constitution Avenue.
Witnesses say they saw a dark in color vehicle, possibly a Blue Saturn View, chasing a silver Chrysler 300 turning west onto Dorchester Road.
The chase reportedly continued down Dorchester Road to Ashley Phosphate in the area of I-26.
From there, police say the silver car exited Ashley Phosphate near Northwoods Boulevard onto I-26 East. The dark vehicle reportedly fired four rounds into the driver’s side door and window of another unrelated Chrysler 300, striking the female driver once.
The 36-year-old later died at MUSC from a single gunshot wound.
