Brrrr…it’s cold in Berkeley County!

Temps are hovering around 35 degrees.

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–According to Berkeley Electric, there are 4,395 people currently without power.  Much of those outages are concentrated in the Macedonia, Whitesville and Lebanon area.

Temperatures are hovering around 35 degrees throughout the county. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the state until Thursday morning.

Along with the power outages, people, of course, are battling the frigid temperatures.

The Berkeley County EOC is at OPCON 4 (partial activation). EPD will continue to closely monitor the situation.

All Berkeley County schools remained closed until further notice, and Governor Nikki Haley has declared a state of emergency.

“Hunker down, stay warm, and be safe,” Haley wrote on Facebook this morning.

As of 9 a.m., Hwy 6 from Cooper Store Rd to Flatbush remain shut down due to a large tree that fell across the coop lines, firefighters on scene report. The tree broke 2 power poles. Berkeley Coop on scene.  Moncks Corner Rural and Cross Fd. have the road closed.
