SC law enforcement to slug it out with Georgia troopers

high patrol gameOn Tuesday “Law Enforcement Appreciate Night” at Joe P. Riley Park (Charleston River Dog Stadium) will truly reflect the spirit of those who serve and protect as the first state to state charity softball fundraiser takes place.

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol will take center field to slug it out against troopers with the Georgia State Patrol to raise money with a purpose.

One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the charity event will go to support the Special Olympics, making it possible for more than 22,000 Special Olympic Athletes in South Carolina to attend the winter and summer games.

The evening will be filled with fun, food, and fellowship as the community recognizes law enforcement and support a powerful cause.

First pitch is at 4:30pm with the game rounding out at 6:00pm. Tickets to the event are only $5 and include admission to the River Dogs baseball game at 7:05pm. Tickets can be purchased at Crews Chevrolet located at 8199 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston.

The family friendly event will have something for everyone. Local media talent will be hanging out in the dunking booth waiting to make a splash.

Major League Baseball player and local celebrity Orlando “ODOG” Hudson of the Chicago White Sox will be around signing autographs in support of the Special Olympics.

“I am very excited!” says Trooper Bob Beres of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Beres reached out to the neighboring state and offered up the friendly challenge that will hopefully lead to annual games and fundraising.

“We need a good turn out to be able to do this next year,” added Beres.  The friendly competition has begun as rivaling friends prepare to celebrate “Law Enforcement Appreciation” night by partaking in the charity event.

Beres is confident that the South Carolina Highway Patrol team will be victorious winners advising the Georgia opponents to “Do all the smack talking on the field” and to “Hash tag peach cobbler.”
