You may even encounter a zombie or two along the trail, so be careful!

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—From zombies to witches, one Berkeley County trail that sits beside a real cemetery is said to attract all sorts of ghoulish creatures.

Some survivors have even encountered Freddy Krueger along the frightening path, and others have nearly gotten torn to pieces with a creepy lunatic wielding a chainsaw.

“Screaming is good for the lungs,” joked Sally DuPree Bowick.

For nearly the last 25 years Sally has transformed her property into a haunted trail with all sorts of monsters and ghosts hiding in the woods, eagerly waiting to track down and scare the pants off of those who dare enter it.

This creature is known to haunt the trail.

“People can expect to get a cardio workout,” Sally stated. “We may not be able to scare you, but you are guaranteed to get a laugh.”

Every year, hundreds of people throughout the community walk through the trail. Once they’re finished with that, many visitors manage to collect themselves and boldly enter the haunted house Sally has also set up.

“We work on it all year long. But, come August it is on!” Sally said. “We work every free moment we have. Thank God I have some wonderful friends that give up every weekend to help.”

Halloween is obviously Sally’s favorite time of year. As a result, the holiday fun doesn’t stop on October 31st.

November 1st is when the haunted trail and house is open for visitors. Best of all, it’s FREE!

“We have started excepting donations now if people would like to donate, but we ask for nothing,” explained Sally. “We do sell some food to try to cover the light bill.”

For Sally, creating a fun event that the community can enjoy and tell their friends about makes all the hard work putting into the haunted trail, costumes and props all worth it.

I survived my encounter with Freddy Krueger.

If you go, the event opens to the public on November 1st from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. and is located at 1072 Beaver Dam Road in Bonneau.

“Come out and get your scare on with us,” stated Sally. “It is all a lot of fun!”
