MONCKS CORNER, S.C.—In the winter 2011, Moncks Corner town leaders broke ground on the new recreation complex. Three years later, the 52-acre complex has come such a long way.
Over the weekend, the complex was the site of Moncks Corner’s very BBQ festival, an event which attracted hundreds of people. Part of the money raised from the event will go toward continuing to fund the construction of the project.
The town’s hospitality tax is funding the majority of the construction.
“We were bounded seven million dollars based on the hospitality tax, which is a two percent tax, and that handles debt services on the building. So when people go out eating
in Moncks Corner, they are helping pay for the complex,” Peagler has previously stated.
According to town administrator, Marc Hehn, the complex is part of a twenty year project and has three phases of construction.
“The football soccer fields will come next, and a farmers market is in the design phase,” stated Hehn.
Hehn added the lights for the football soccer field will come later.
“Another paved parking lot is under review by county engineering,” Hehn added. “A Miracle League Field and Community Center will come later.”
Town leaders believe the new recreation complex will fill a much needed void in Moncks Corner.
