Berkeley Co. recognizes National Board Certified Teachers

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County School District is proud to announce its newest National Board Certified Teachers.

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) recognizes these educators as some of the best in the nation.

Newly accredited teachers are Nicky Brett from College Park Elementary School, Juann Edmondson from Cane Bay High School, and Iris Lewis and Sarah Rickett from Goose Creek Primary School.

Several Berkeley County teachers who were previously certified renewed their credentials.  They are Sonya Addison-Stewart, Ellen Davis, Debra Dirkes, Tanya Domin, Cynthia Hatcher, Edna Jordan, Catherine Kirk, Charlotte Miller, Karen Motroni, Debra Parrish, Christine Phillips, Deborah Schmidt, Margaret Ward, and Drusilla Zehner.

“We are very proud of all of our educators throughout Berkeley County School District.  Achieving National Board Certification is a mark of distinction and excellence. We fully support our educators as they pursue professional endorsements, as it will enrich our students’ educational experiences,” said Dr. Rodney Thompson, Superintendent of Berkeley County School District.

National Board Certification is the most respected certification available in education, providing numerous benefits to teachers, students and schools.  It provides a national voluntary system to certify teachers who meet its high and rigorous standards.

South Carolina has 136 newly accredited National Board Certified Teachers for 2014, ranking it tenth in the nation.
