BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–An arrest has been made in a case involving the death of a Sangaree area man, stated Berkeley Co. Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Dan Moon.

Kristopher Charles Gerhard, 30, of 106 Kirk Ct. Summerville has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Moon says that Daniel Cristino Montalvo, who also resided at 106 Kirk Ct.was found early Monday morning January 19, 2015 in the driveway of a residence at 115 Heather Ct., which is just around the corner from Kirk Ct., and transported to a local hospital with severe head and body trauma.

During their investigation, detectives with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office determined that the victim had fallen from his vehicle that was being driven by his friend, the suspect, Kristopher Gerhart.

Moon says apparently he was doing what is referred to as “car surfing,” where someone lays on either the hood or top of a moving vehicle.

After the victim fell from the moving vehicle, the suspect, Gerhart, fled the scene and did not report the incident to authorities.

Montalvo died as result of his injuries two days later on Wednesday, January 23, 2015.

A bond hearing for Gerhart is scheduled for tonight at 7:00 PM at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.
