Via Press Release:

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–At noon standing in front of his Family’s hardware store, Central True Value Hardware, Marty Housand formally announced his campaign today to become the next Berkeley County Sheriff.

Housand is a veteran law enforcement officer having spent more than two decades on duty with the South Carolina Highway Patrol and as the former Police Chief of Santee.

Marty Housand said, “This County needs strong leadership in the Sheriff’s Office and that is why I am announcing my campaign to become the next Sheriff of Berkeley County.  I have lived here my entire adult life, my family has lived here for generations, I know Berkeley County and I respect the citizens too much to ever let them down.”

Housand also picked up key early support from some of Berkeley County’s top Republican leaders including former County Republican Chairman, Terry Hardesty.  In fact, over 20 Republican activists attended today’s announcement highlighting Housand’s growing momentum.  Hardesty said, “Marty is a family man, a product of this community, he understands the challenges we face and offers leadership we can count on.”

An experienced law enforcement officer, Housand plans to focus his initial efforts as Sheriff on getting more officers out on the street, protecting citizens, without increasing the sheriff’s budget.  Housand will create a youth mentoring program for the County’s most at risk youngsters and help show them a way out of a life in crime.  Understanding the current state of ethics in government, Housand will demand more clear transparency and real accountability for everyone working in the Sheriff’s office.

Conservative State Senator Larry Grooms, who was not able to attend the announcement said, “I encouraged Marty to run. He is a great man, both honest and trustworthy, and I know he will make a great Sheriff.”
