Philip Simmons High School Names Brion Packett New Assistant Principal For Athletics

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Brion Packett was named the Assistant Principal for Athletics at Philip Simmons High School located in Wando, South Carolina.

The Berkeley County School Board approved the appointment at their meeting on Tuesday, December 13. Packett will begin his new assignment on Monday, January 2, to prepare the Iron Horses for athletic competition in their 2017 opening season.

“I am excited and extremely grateful to those who have played a part in both my personal and professional development as an educational leader,” Mr. Packett said. “I am looking forward to this unique opportunity to positively impact our students and staff, as well as the Philip Simmons community. I am truly blessed to be joining the team at Philip Simmons High School, and I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead! I am honored to be one of the first to say, ‘Go Iron Horses!’”

Packett has been a Stratford Knight for the past nine years, spending eight years in the classroom as a social studies teacher. In September 2015, Packett took on a new assignment as Stratford’s Academy Coach and Resource Specialist. He also served as the junior varsity head soccer coach and men’s varsity assistant soccer coach for the Knights from 2008 until 2015.

A 2007 graduate of the Citadel, Mr. Packett received his Master of Sports Science from the United States Sports Academy in 2011 and his Master of Education in Secondary School Administration and Supervision from Charleston Southern University in 2015.

“We are very excited and proud to welcome Mr. Brion Packett to serve our students, families, and staff as the first Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Philip Simmons High School,” said Principal Dr. James Spencer, Principal. “Mr. Packett brings with him a unique combination of experience in academics and athletics. Most importantly, he has a passion and drive for excellence, enthusiasm for education, and a strong work ethic to get the job done.”
